Student council food drive collects over 130 bags of groceries

The Junior High student council hosted their annual food drive from November 9th to November 12th to collect food for people not so fortunate during the Thanksgiving season.
The council donated the food to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network (PVEN). This year, PVEN asked for food for 440 food baskets; this is double the amount of food requested in previous years. PVEN is always grateful to get food from the school district. The organization not only benefits the Pleasant Valley district, as many people think. PVEN also helps people in Monroe County.
For the past seven years, the student council has been holding the food drive. Last year, the school came together and donated a total of 180 bags of food for the drive. This year, however, 130 bags were donated."
I still think the turnout was great" said an enthusiastic Mrs. Bickart, who was a previous student council advisor and still continues to help load the truck when food is transported to the PVEN.
Ms. Ragazzo is the current student council advisor. When asked about her favorite part of the food drive, she said, "When the volunteers come to pick up the food, they’re so appreciative, and everyone feels so good at that moment."
The day the truck came to pick up the food, twelve student council members helped to load the truck, as well as the students from Mrs. Huber’s and Mr. Sobrinski’s first and second period classes. These classes included both eighth and ninth grade students.
For events like this, the whole student body comes together to help people in need.
"I love being able to help people in their time of need," said a student when she was asked what she liked about helping with the food drive.
President of the student council said, "The way everyone participated was great. Together we collected over 130 bags of food, and it went to give families a nice Thanksgiving."
