Korean Students Visit Stroudsburg Junior High
By Nick
Twelve students from Korea visited Stroudsburg Junior High School one day this semester to learn about America’s school system.
They came on a 12 day trip to America, visiting New York City and other places in the Northeast. They didn’t miss school either, as they were still on winter break.
They arrived at 10 a.m. and soon began their tour of the school. There was only one translator, but this was sufficient as most of the kids spoke a little bit of English.
Their tour of the school lasted all morning. They first visited the library, then the orchestra room, and finally the chorus room. After that they went upstairs and visited Mr. Wentzel and Mr. Muller, experiencing an American math and science class. They also visited a computer lab and then returned downstairs. They saw the art, family and consumer science rooms, technical education rooms, the cafeteria, and our gymnasium and weight room.
The tour was concluded in the auditorium, where a question and answer session was conducted. Questions were asked by both the Korean students and the Junior High students who accompanied them during the tour. From this question and answer session we all learned much about American and Korean cultures. The Korean students were each given small folders with various things in them to remind them of their trip.
“It was a really fun day. I learned a lot about Korean culture,” says one of the students who toured with the Koreans.
Throughout the entire visit, the Korean students took many photos and recorded videos to remember the experience. I’m sure it is one they will never forget as we thoroughly enjoyed their visit to our school.
