Learning Support

The Stroudsburg Area School District either directly, or through contact with other education agencies, provides special education programs and services that are required to meet the needs of exceptional students. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed for each exceptional student on a yearly basis. The IEP provides the building level team with program and course recommendations to meet the specific and individual needs of the student. Both regular education and special education classes are available to students with disabilities. Small group learning support and emotional support classes are available in each of the core academic areas; however, placement in these classes is made only through the IEP process. Learning Support and Emotional Support classes in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies parallel the regular education curriculum in content. Pacing, class size, degree of exploration, use of alternate instructional materials, and varied student performance outcomes differentiate special education courses from the regular education courses.
